Established in 1881, St Stephen’s College is an open institute known to be amongst the oldest institutions in Delhi, India. It is a part of the University of Delhi. The college focuses on liberal arts and science education. The institution was founded by Samuel Scott Allnutt. It is a co-educational institute of higher learning that is amongst the top colleges in the country. Earlier, the institute was associated with Calcutta University. Later on, in 1922, it was considered amongst the three institutes of Delhi University. The college began its first classes with five students and three faculty members.
St. Stephen’s College Admission Process
Unlike any other college under the University of Delhi, the college has its separate admission process. The students are supposed to apply online through the application form. For admission in an undergraduate programme, the minimum score in the qualifying exam must be 50%. For admission in a postgraduate degree programme, an applicant must have a relevant bachelor’s degree. After qualifying the entrance examination, the candidate will have to go for an interview. The shortlisted candidates are then called for joining the institute. The college provides a 50% reservation for the SC category students. The cut-off is set by the admission authorities of the institution.

The institute has a great placement record over the years. Many students have bagged high salary packages from well-known companies. The average salary package offered is around 8 LPA. The highest salary package has gone up to 14 LPA. The institute offers a number of scholarships to students including handicapped individuals. It has a total of 13 scholarships. Some of them include National merit scholarship, Government of India Hindi Scholarship, National Merit scholarship for children of school teachers, State Merit scholarship, State scholarship, University merit scholarship, Scholarship for proficiency in sports, State scholarship for Arts, Labour Welfare Fund scholarship, and Scholarship for handicapped students. These scholarships offer students with various grants and awards. Notably, a scholarship is provided to students with a good academic record. Also, an educational concession is offered to students.
The institute participates in student exchange programmes that allow students to learn about a different curriculum and work under professionals as interns. Also, students gain exposure and practical knowledge under this programme. They are sent to different international universities for a few months.
